2018 Collegiate Scholarships

Six Young Professionals awarded $1,000 each

Each year, INSHAPE awards $1,000 academic scholarships to undergraduate students enrolled full-time in an Indiana college/university. Applicants must be majoring in health, physical education, recreation, dance, or exercise science.

The scholarship award is based upon: participation in collegiate activities, professional competencies, potential as a professional, grade point average, financial need, and recommendations. Scholarship funds allocated for the purpose of tuition and books for the 2018 - 2019 school year.

This year, INSHAPE announces the following students as recipients of the 2018 Jean Lee / Jeff Marvin Collegiate Scholarships:

Mikayla Duzan, Manchester University
Justin Dostal, University of Indianapolis
Matthew Longest, Indiana State University
Chelsea Hersley, IUPUI
Brooke Fullenkamp, Indiana Weselyan

Congratulations to all scholarship recipients. They will be recognized at the Hall of Fame Banquet at the State Conference on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Grand Park Sports Campus (Westfield, IN).

Indiana Wesleyan University

My dream is to become an elementary physical education teacher and coach either middle school volleyball or varsity girls golf. I love working with younger kids and want to help them enjoy being active in fun, unique ways.

Chelsea Hersley

IUPUI

After graduation, I plan on applying for physical education and health teacher jobs. I am also interesting in coaching softball at high school level. I will start looking into getting my masters in physical education.

MiKayla Duzan

Manchester University

I plan to pursue a career in health and physical education by seeking a teaching and coaching position in Indiana. I also see the opportunities INSHAPE provide to be excellent ways of continuing to develop myself as an educator.

Justin Dostal

University of Indianapolis

A dream of mine for after graduation is to go back to my old high school and switch things around. The high school PE program there, as many others, is focused mainly on sports and the aspects people gain while playing those.

Mathew Longest

Indiana State University

My love for children has led me to choose this profession. I enjoy teaching them new things. I love watching them grow as they learn movements over the course of their life.

"After graduation, I plan to teach Health and Physical Education at a middle or high school around Indianapolis. I also plan to apply for a soccer and/or softball coaching position."
