Is Your School INSHAPE?

Editor's Note: INSHAPE recently announced a new "INSHAPE School" program to help schools promote the power of the Whole Child to staff, students, families, and communities. School principals are encouraged to use the INSHAPE School designation to demonstrate a commitment to academic achievement and student well-being.

What is an INSHAPE school?   INSHAPE schools succeed by emphasizing student health to improve academic achievement. INSHAPE schools embrace a culture/climate of wellness (source: CDC's Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child).
What is INSHAPE?   INSHAPE is a non-profit association representing 5,000+ Indiana health and physical educators, coaches, administrators, and others who envision a state where all children are prepared to lead healthy, physically active lives.
Does my school qualify as an INSHAPE school?   Probably. All Indiana K-12 schools are eligible to register. If you can take the INSHAPE school pledge (below), your school qualifies.

Why should my school be an INSHAPE school?   INSHAPE schools receive the following benefits to educate the whole child:
  • New and updated resources for social-emotional learning, e-Learning, distance learning, and advocacy.
  • Educator resources for standards-based health and physical education.
  • Full member benefits for your lead administrator (principal) and lead health/physical educator (department chair).
  • Access to SHAPE America's health.moves.minds. in-school, service learning programs.
  • Digital platform for community fundraising to support Whole Child programs.
  • Special offers and discounts from INSHAPE partners.
  • Free and discounted professional development including the INSHAPE annual state conference.
  • Collaboration opportunities and best practice sharing with other INSHAPE schools.
  • Subscription to INSHAPE publications.
  • A banner designating your school as an INSHAPE school.
Let's navigate a better future together where all Indiana children are prepared to lead healthy, physically active lives. Improved outcomes start with health literacy and physical literacy in the school building. How do we know? Because research tells us that health and physical literacy have a:
Positive relationship with academic achievement and test scores
Positive association with attention, concentration and on-task behavior
Positive impact to reduce discipline referrals and participation in high-risk behaviors

You are encouraged to register your school ($79) now to take advantage of new summer professional development programs in e-Learning, social-emotional learning, and new lessons.
Schools that sign up by September 30, 2020 will receive banners by November 1, 2020. A media toolkit will be sent with each banner enabling schools to promote the designation within their school system and community.
Special note to INSHAPE members:   You can upgrade your 2020-2021 professional membership to INSHAPE school status for the price difference.

The health. moves. minds.™ program brings the lessons, activities, and community-building ideas that can help kids live their best lives. Inspire healthy habits, fuel active minds, and teach kids to thrive physically and emotionally with this new service-learning program.
