2020 Teachers of the Year

Nominate a Teacher

INSHAPE, the Indiana Society for Health and Physical Educators, annually recognizes state Teacher of the Year award recipients, six individuals who are among the elite of the school health education, physical education, adapted physical education, dance and recreation professions.
 
The awards are given in recognition of outstanding teaching performance and the ability to motivate today's youth to participate in a lifetime of physical activity.
 
Teacher of the Years are awarded in the following categories:

  • Elementary Physical Education Teacher of the Year (more)
  • Health Educator of the Year (more)
  • Adapted Physical Educator of the Yea (more)
  • Middle School Physical Education Teacher of the Year (more)
  • High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year (more)
  • Recreation/Leisure Educator of the Year (more)
The 2019 state award recipients were recently recognized on November 3, 2019 during the organization's Hall of Fame Awards Banquet concurrent with the State Conference. For the second year in a row the INSHAPE State Conference was held at Grand Park Events Center in Westfield, IN. The awards banquet is presented by U.S. Games, a division of BSN Sports of Dallas, TX.
 
Daniel Tennessen of Super School 19 and Reese Ryzewksi of Highland High School, 2019 INSHAPE Teachers of the Year have recently been selected as Midwest District Teachers of the Year. Each teacher is one of five candidates for the 2020 SHAPE America National Teachers of the Year. INSHAPE has a rich tradition of members who have been recognized as National Teachers of the Year including:
  • Heidi Stan:   National Health Teacher of the Year (2014)
  • Tammy Brant:   National Middle School PE Teacher of the Year (2010)
  • Karen Hatch:   National Health Teacher of the Year (2010)
  • Roberta Sipe:   National Elementary PE Teacher of the Year (2007)
  • LeAnn Haggard:  National Dance Educator of the Year (2005)
