2020 Recognition Awards

The association annually recognizes the outstanding achievements of individuals who have contributed to the advancement of the profession. The 2020 class of distinguished award recipients include:
 
Keith Buetow (Martinsville High School, retired), Legacy Award - An individual in the health, physical education, recreation, dance, sport, and/or allied professions who have given long and distinguished service. The award recognizes those persons who have left a legacy, a benchmark, or a standard in professional service, scholarship, and leadership.

 
Mark Urtel (IUPUI), Leadership Award - An individual who has demonstrated significant leadership in terms of program development in health, physical education, recreation, dance, and/or allied areas, and whose contributions reflect prestige, honor, and dignity to the Association.

 
Jacqueline Kelly (Roosevelt Middle School), Young Professional Award - A younger member of the Association who has demonstrated outstanding potential in teaching, scholarship, and service, and if continued, indicates that he/she will develop into a distinguished member of the profession.

 
Jessica Yoder (Indiana Department of Education), Special Contributor Award - An individual who is outside of health, physical education, recreation, dance, and sport but who, through his/her work, has contributed significantly to the general purposes of the Association.

 
Lawrence Judge (Ball State University), Honor Award - An individual who is clearly outstanding in his/her profession with long and distinguished service to health, physical education, recreation, dance, and/or allied areas.

 
Austin Sheckles (Indiana University) - Outstanding Student Award - An undergraduate student who has displayed distinctive leadership and meritorious service to his/her profession of health, physical education, recreation, dance, and/or allied areas.

 
Award recipients will be recognized on November 2, 2020 (7:00 p.m.) during the INSHAPE Hall of Fame Celebration. The 2020 class of Indiana Teachers of the Year and the 2020 class of collegiate scholarship recipients will also be recognized at that time. All members and guests are welcome to attend this virtual event (RSVP).
